This October, Canteen proudly marks the 30th anniversary of National Bandanna Day, an inspiring day of support and solidarity for young Australians impacted by cancer. With over $35 million raised since its inception, every bandanna sold provides vital counselling, peer support, and life-saving programs for young people facing the challenges of cancer.
Across Australia on Thursday 24 October, Canteen staff and young leaders took to the streets, with pop-up sales at major city hubs. The many wonderful supporters we met on the day shared countless personal stories about why they support the cause.
Meanwhile our passionate fundraisers were working hard to raise money for young people facing cancer by selling bandannas, joining the Cut Colour Cover hair challenge and undertaking 10,000 steps a day in October.
Corporate partners like MoneyMe, The Oodie and SEEK came through with unique bandanna designs, plus we saw display campaigns across Aussie airports with Lagardere AWPL, and bandannas in Beyond Bank branches. Then on 24 October, with online sales matched on the day up to $30,000 by generous partners Pillow Talk, 24 Hr Business Plan and Corporate Match 2.0, the impact was tremendous!
A highlight of Bandanna Day’s 30th anniversary was a heartfelt video announcement from Dannii Minogue on her exclusive bandanna design collaboration! Alongside Dannii, several celebrities and influencers showed their support, sharing powerful personal connections to the cause.
Paralympian and former Canteen leader Chris Bond showed his proud, continued support for Bandanna Day. Media personalities Rove McManus, Deborah Knight, Matt O'Kine, Georgia Love, and comedian Peter Helliar, shared their support on social media, with Hellier creatively challenging people to try and look as cool as him. Other high-profile supporters included radio host Ash London, fashionista Elle Ferguson and Carly and Tresne from My Kitchen Rules.
We want to thank all our passionate supporters, especially our incredible schools and fundraisers who sold bandannas, Cut, Coloured or Covered their hair, and took 10,000 Steps a Day in October!
The generous support of our community helped us raise over $400,000 for young people impacted by cancer. Thank you for helping young people find life in the face of cancer.
