In March 2025, Canteen launched the first-ever Five Peaks Virtual Challenge, inspiring people across Australia to move with purpose and conquer virtual peaks in support of the 23,000 young Aussies who face the mountain that is cancer each year.
Whether facing their own cancer diagnosis, or dealing with a loved one’s cancer journey, climbing that peak means feeling isolated, lost, exhausted, and confused. It’s terrifying, and no one should face it alone.
That’s why participants were challenged to walk, run or roll a total of 68km—the combined distance of Australia's five highest peaks: Mount Kosciuszko, Mount Ossa, Mount Bartle Frere, Mount Bogong, and Mount Bimberi. Whether completed on bush trails, city streets, or gym treadmills, every kilometre contributed to a national show of support. And the results were extraordinary.
And the results were extraordinary.
- 1,663 challengers signed up
- Over 48,000 kilometers were covered
- More than $140,000 was raised

These funds directly support young people impacted by cancer—whether they're navigating their own diagnosis, a close family member's cancer or the death of a loved one. All funds raised will help provide free counselling, peer support programs, and access to youth-specific cancer services.
Participants didn’t just conquer kilometres—they climbed the virtual peaks that young people face when cancer changes everything. Young people like Daniel, who found a safe space in Canteen to talk after losing his mother to cancer, and Chloe, who connected with others through Canteen while her dad battled brain cancer. Their stories reflect the impact every step—and every dollar—can make.
The inaugural Five Peaks Challenge has proven that together, we can go the distance for young people when they need it most.
